In her first-ever interview since becoming a mom, Anne Curtis talked about her decision to give birth in Australia and why her initial plans to fly back to Manila after she gave birth to her daughter Dahlia Amelié did not push through.

For the latest episode of screenwriter-turned-host G3 San Diego’s #LiveWithG3 show, Anne talked about being a first-time mom as well as living in Australia since giving birth to her daughter Dahlia.

According to Anne, it was never part of her plan to deliver her bundle of joy in Australia. But a few weeks before she gave birth, no one could convince the It’s Showtime host to take a break from working non-stop. So she thought giving birth in a place where work is far away from her was the best way to deal with the situation.

“Actually, it was a last minute decision really. Kasi I’d already chosen a doctor and a hospital and then, parang last minute I decided na parang I was working so hard kasi. And parang hindi nila ako mapigilang mag-work. So I felt that one way that would really get me to stop working is to just kind of be here,” she revealed.

But more than her work-related reasons, Anne said her mom Carmen also played a huge part in her decision-making.

“And major factor then kasi was being with my mom. Lalo na it’s my first baby and having her help me through it, ‘yun ‘yung naging parang du’n nalang ako para mas tahimik, mas quiet. I can really just focus on the first few weeks and months of my baby daughter’s life,” she said.

Meanwhile, Anne said she initially planned to fly back to Manila a few months after giving birth to her daughter. But for her daughter’s safety, Anne decided to stay longer in Australia.

“Yeah. Pero given the current situation, na-extend talaga ‘yung stay namin dito because I mean, if it was just me, no problem. Kaya kong lumipad anytime, ‘di ba? Pero now, I have a little life to think off and she is the top priority. Her safety is the top priority and her health,” she said.

The 35-year-old actress admitted that she somehow saw a silver lining in being locked down in Australia as she and husband Erwan Heussaff got to spend more time with Dahlia.

“I’m here in Victoria. And we’re still in lockdown. Lockdown pa rin kami. And honestly, the silver lining of it all is that we get to spend … well, Dahlia gets both of her parents 24/7. As in 24/7. And pareho kami,” she said.

She added: “So I think that’s the beauty of what’s happening now — is that we get to spend so much time with her. I mean all of our hours are dedicated to just Dahlia.”
