It has been a long, difficult year for all of us. Nine months into the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, we could all use a little cheer, especially during this holiday season. Cue the Christmas movie marathon.

Below are 10 Filipino films from recent and past years that are designed to make this season a little bit brighter. From the family-comedy flick The Mall, The Merrier to the Christmas classic 9 Mornings, these are movies that are guaranteed to get you and your whole family into the holiday spirit, stat.

1. Seven Sundays

Released in 2017, Seven Sundays tells the story of the Bonifacio siblings, who reunite when they find out their father has been diagnosed with cancer. In the process, they have to deal with the unresolved issues among themselves before it's too late. Aga Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, Enrique Gil, and Ronaldo Valdez headline this heartwarming film.

2. Four Sisters and a Wedding

In this 2013 offering from Star Cinema, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo, and Shaina Magdayao play the role of four sisters who reunite to dissuade their younger brother from marrying his fiancée. As they scheme to "save" their only brother, the siblings are forced to face problems in their family. The movie also stars Enchong Dee, Coney Reyes, and Sam Milby.

3. Miracle in Cell No. 7

Based on the 2013 South Korean film of the same name, Miracle in Cell No. 7 is about a mentally challenged man who is wrongfully imprisoned for murder and who builds friendships with the hardened criminals in his cell. In return, they help him see his daughter again by smuggling her into the prison. Aga Muhlach, Bela Padilla, Xia Vigor, and Tirso Cruz III star in this tear-jerking movie directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval.

4. The Mall, The Merrier

The Mall, The Merrier is a 2019 family-comedy film starring Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis. It follows the story of sisters Moira and Morissette, who, after the death of their parents, compete to gain ownership of a shopping mall. Their feud is compounded by the arrival of their Aunt Moody, and mysterious events begin to occur when a book containing secrets of the mannequins, toys and mascots that come alive after dark is unsealed.

5. Four Sisters Before the Wedding

This comedy-drama film serves as the prequel to the 2013 well-loved movie Four Sisters and a Wedding. Set 10 years before the events of the original movie, the movie shows how the relationships of the Salazar sisters Teddie, Bobbie, Alex, and Gabbie—played by Charlie Dizon, Alexa Ilacad, Gillian Vicencio, and Belle Mariano, respectively—came about. Carmina Villaroel, Dominic Ochoa, and CJ Delgado also star.

6. Ang Tanging Ina

Raising her large family alone after her husband's death, Ina searches for work and finally lands the most unlikely job: President of the Philippines. Ai-Ai delas Alas headlined this comedy film with Eugene Domingo, Marvin Agustin, Nikki Valdez, Carlo Aquino, Heart Evangelista, and Shaina Magdayao.

7. Silly Red Shoes

In this romantic-comedy film, Francine Diaz plays the role of Ashley, a girl who has weird, "special" feet who pairs up with amateur shoemaker Chuck—played by Kyle Echarri—for a shoemaking contest. While making the perfect shoes, the unlikely pair becomes the "perfect fit" for each other. Released in 2019, Silly Red Shoes is directed by James Robin Mayo.

8. Unforgettable

After befriending a stray dog, a vibrant young woman with autism embarks on a long journey, convinced her furry friend can heal her ill grandmother. Directed by Perci Intalan, Unforgettable stars Sarah Geronimo, celebrity dog Milo, Gina Pareño, Ara Mina, Meg Imperial, and Kim Imperial, with cameos from Regine Velasquez, Anne Curtis, Marco Gumabao, and more.

9. Shake Rattle and Roll 9 - Episode 1, Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree tells the story of a family who spends Christmas break at their grandmother's house after a painful tragedy. As they happily celebrate their reunion, the Christmas tree in the living room gazes upon them and waits for the right time to turn every family member into its grand Christmas feast. Gina Alajar, Tonton Gutierrez, Nash Aguas, Lovi Poe, John Prats, and Boots Anson-Roa headline this horror film.

10. 9 mornings

In this drama film released in 2002, Piolo Pascual stars the broken-hearted and addicted to sex and money Gene, who learns that he can inherit his grandmother's wealth by completing nine Simbang Gabi rituals. While completing the tasks, he meets and falls in love with Elise, played by Donita Rose, who also is dealing with sorrow.
