During the recent The Hows of Us press conference, Star Cinema director Cathy Garcia-Molina explained the reason behind Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo’s transition to more mature roles. “Kailangan mag gawa ng dalawa ng bago kasi parang after La Luna Sangre and Can’t Help Falling in Love, and Barcelona, tatlo yun na magkakaibang tono. So ano yung susunod? Uulit ba kami dun or panibago? So siyempre mas gusto sana natin lagi bago ng bago. So ano pa bang hindi nila mnapupuntahan? Something more real. Real na very slice of life type of story. Kaya kami napunta sa ganitong kuwento,” direk Cathy explained.

Direk Cathy also admitted that she wanted to prove critics wrong about her stars’ acting capabilities. “I’m going to be very honest and I don’t know if mapapagalitan ako but I don’t care. Marami kasing nag-da-doubt sa capacity ng artista ko especially Kathryn so ilalabas ko ang galing ni Kathryn dito and I think she did it with flying colors,” she said.

Apart from having a multi-layered story, direk Cathy shared that The Hows of Us was also a big acting challenge for Kathniel. “What I love about this story is hindi lang siya isang kuwento. She’s Dating the Gangster, we loved that story kasi madami rin siyang kuwento di ba? But this has more. Kasi ito pinagdaanan nila sila so naging bata sila dito at one point, naging alanganin, naging immature, naging mature. So ang laki laki ng hiningi ko sa dalawa kasi halos na pagkatao yung pinagawa ko. Within one day nakaka-ilang (eksena) sila. So ang laki laking challenge for both of them, for the staff, for the production team, for everything. Yun pa lang ang laking challenge na sa kanila at natuwa ako sa ibinigay nila. So isa yung dahilan bakit ito ang napiling kuwento para sa kanila,” she explained.

Lastly, the talented director said the movie was made out of love for the fans of the popular love team. “May clamor talaga ang Kathniel fans para humingi ng masakit na pelikula. Sabi ko nga, ‘Itong mga batang ito, kahihilig sa sakit. Laging hinihingi yung magbabaon sila ng tuwalya.’ Pero pag binibigyan ng masakit magrereklamo. Pero dahil hindi ko rin naman kaya sa dibdib na masakit all the way yung film, nakapag-inject naman kaming rom-com elements kasi I don’t think it would be my movie without it also. So may saya. Hindi puwedeng mawala. Malungkot, masaya, just like life. Masaya, masakit, may lungkot. May saya, may pait, may ganda,” she added.
