Hundreds of Palestinians in Israel joined an initiative to collect donations to be sent to Gaza, as the hunger situation in the enclave worsens.

The campaign "Stand together", organized by Palestinians in Israel and some Israelis, aims to gather tonnes of food items and other supplies to be sent through United Nations trucks into Gaza, organizers said.

The campaign, which is touring all Arab cities and towns in Israel, encourages Palestinians to get diapers, canned food, women supplies and other products.

According to one of the organizers, Alon-Lee Green, the campaign is to end starving in the strip, blaming his government for the hunger.

Israel denies blame for hunger in Gaza and insists it is letting in enough food.

The campaign will also be in some mixed Israeli cities where Arabs and Israelis live such as Jaffa and Haifa.

The United Nations says Gaza is on the verge of famine, with the entire population experiencing high levels of food insecurity, half at the highest level of catastrophe, and mass death imminent unless more aid arrives immediately.

The 10-month Israel-Hamas war was triggered on Oct. 7 when Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel's subsequent military campaign has killed more than 40,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities.
