Yemen’s Houthis released a video on Thursday showing a June 12 attack on the Greek-owned MV Tutor coal carrier in the Red Sea, as salvagers confirmed the sinking of the vessel.

Reuters was able to confirm the ship as MV Tutor from the design and shape of the ship's antenna and deck which matched file images. The name written on the bow of the ship also matched with file images.

The Tutor was struck with missiles and an explosive-laden remote-controlled boat on June 12 and had been taking on water, according to sources including maritime security companies and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Twenty-one of the 22 Filipino seafarers aboard the MV Tutor were rescued. They returned to the Philippines this week.

One Filipino crew member was confirmed missing.

MV Tutor has sunk, complicating possible search operations for the missing Filipino, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

The vessel reportedly drifted to the eastern African coast and was last seen near Eritrea, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac said.

The DMW said it was investigating whether the shipping company and manning agency of the Filipinos complied with all safety requirements for vessels traversing “war like zones” such as the Red Sea.

The sinking of the Tutor would mark the second sinking of a commercial vessel targeted by the Houthis since November, in what they say are attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

At least three Filipino seafarers have died from Houthi's sea attacks.
