The Yamuna River in India has been enveloped by a thick, toxic foam, drone videos revealed on Friday (October 18), sparking widespread concern over the country's worsening water pollution crisis.

The hazardous blanket, which has become a recurring issue, threatens the health and well-being of millions living along the riverbanks.

Videos showed the Yamuna River, a sacred waterway for Hindus, transformed into a shocking spectacle, with a thick, detergent-like foam covering its surface as it flowed through the heart of New Delhi.

New Delhi's daily sewage output of 3.6 billion litres poses a significant environmental threat, with less than half receiving effective treatment. As a result, the remaining untreated waste is dumped into the Yamuna River daily. - report from Reuters
