Philippine health officials have declared a nationwide dengue alert following an alarming rise in the number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease, a spike so serious that the World Health Organization warns the country may experience a severe dengue epidemic this year. Philippine Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo said, four regions in the country have already shown dengue incidence in epidemic proportions.
