MANILA – You will be missed.

After two decades, Yahoo will officially discontinue one of the first chat applications, Yahoo Messenger (YM), Tuesday and netizens immediately mourned the end of an era.

On social media, netizens started sharing their fondest Yahoo Messenger memories.

For Iza Mantalaba-Bedural, the 20-year old messaging app has built friendships over the years that will now last even as the beloved app shuts down.

Traditional courtships may be a thing of the past in messaging apps, but through YM many couples have been brought together.

Netizens even confessed that they “owe” a lot to Yahoo Messenger, and even thanked the once beloved app for the memories and relationships it helped along the way.

For Judy Ann Braga and other netizens, YM is also behind the success of long distance relationships that even led to wedding vows.

And who can forget “buzz”, Yahoo Messenger’s most iconic button?

Yahoo has reassured its users that the shutdown will not affect their respective Yahoo accounts. Netizens may also opt to download their chat history by going to the request site.

Yahoo will now be focusing on building new ways of communication, like Yahoo Squirrel - an invite-only group-messaging app.
