His character Charlie Manansala in The Broken Marriage Vow may be despised because of tolerating his David Ilustre’s (Zanjoe Marudo) infidelity and having a hidden lust towards his best friend’s wife Jill (Jodi Sta. Maria), but viewers surely admired Ketchup Eusebio during his fun virtual interview in the latest episode of Hotspot on Tuesday, March 8.

The Broken Marriage Vow has been well-received by avid Kapamilya viewers, who have probably watched the original British drama “Doctor Foster” and the Korean adaptation “The World of the Married Couple,” which was broadcast on Kapamilya Channel in 2020. Thus, Ketchup has nothing but happiness and gratitude for the overwhelming support of the viewers.

“I’m just really happy and very grateful doon sa pagtangkilik at patuloy na pagsuporta ng mga Kapamilya natin dito sa aming pinaghirapan na The Broken Marriage Vow. Sana po ay abangan ninyo pa rin at marami pa pong mga kaabang-abang at kapana-panabik na mga pasabog ang mangyayari rito sa thread ng buhay ni Dra. Jill Ilustre,” he said.

He then talked about his character Charlie, which he revealed is way different from its international counterparts. Since they were bestowed the freedom to change a few elements of the narrative in order to make it apt to the Filipino culture, he was allowed to do his own interpretation of his role by making him playful yet a bit submissive and tender to his wife Carol (Bianca Manalo).

As host DJ Jhai Ho commended him for being a collaborative actor through the years, Ketchup revealed that it just organically grew in him through the years that he’s been in the local entertainment scene. His two-decade experience as an actor made him realized the importance of speaking his mind for the betterment of every project that he’s involved in. At the same time, he also understands those actors who cannot do it yet since he used to be on that similar situation, too.

“That’s why siguro, gano’n pa rin ‘yong ginagawa ko hanggang ngayon kasi I’m just very grateful na naco-consider ako sa mga projects. I’m so honored na until now, ang gaganda ng mga projects na napapasama ako. You always have to be on your best foot forward and always give more than 100% na kaya mo. And you always have to consider na maraming mga bago, mga mas bata, mga mas malaking fanbase, kumbaga mas mura ang budget, mas hungrier sa trabaho. But there’ll never be me,” he further explained.

The 36-year-old actor went on to enumerate the qualities of Charlie that he likes and dislikes, disclosing how he admires his being sweet and loving to his wife Carol, while deriding his being manipulative in order to conceal his misdeeds. He also cannot fathom why Charlie doesn’t want to have kids yet even though he’s already matured and capable enough to build a family.

DJ Jhai Ho also brought up the talked about intimate scene of Charlie and Jill, which he revealed was really challenging since it was his first time to do that kind of scene. Besides, Jodi is also one of his closest friends in showbiz, so they really found it difficult to see themselves in that situation.

Prolonging his anxiety was when the filming of that scene got postponed a number of times. But all the preparations he did went down the drain as he got intimidated by the scene, particularly by Jodi’s nuances and splendor totally stunned him. Aside from that, the dinner date and the bed scene were shot in different days, which made it challenging for him to sustain the vibe and emotions. Since they’re friends, he and Jodi couldn’t help themselves from laughing at that awkward moment.

“Very thankful ako na si Jodi ‘yong kasama ko sa experience na ‘yon na gano’n ka-open at gano’n kami nakipagtulungan at gano’n kami nagtulungan,” he said, regarding that remarkable scene as one for the books.

Ketchup also enthusiastically talked about how was it working with his other castmates, starting off with his on screen sweetheart Bianca Manalo, to whom he worked with for the first time in a project. She admitted getting impressed with how serious she was in taking on her character as she used method acting towards him.

He’s then all-praises to Zaijian Jaranilla, who he considers a “prodigy” because of how mature, competent, and professional he is as an actor. Thus, he’s certain that there is a bright future waiting for him in the industry and none of his contemporaries could be at par with him.

The seasoned character actor also had the same comment for Sue Ramirez and Jane Oineza, who he both commended for their acting prowess and attitude towards work and everyone on the set. He also had nice words to his friend Zanjoe Marudo, who he described as passionate, humble, and steady, which he found contagious and admirable.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Jodi, he disclosed that he’d been so amazed by the energy she radiated on the set and how the process that she used in portraying Jill indeed enabled her to deliver a compelling performance. He also related perceiving her as the Maricel Soriano, Vilma Santos, or Judy Ann Santos of their generation because of how a stellar actress she is.

When asked how he would describe The Marriage Broken Vow in one word, he uttered “world-class” as they’re able to showcase the culture of the Philippines through the costumes they wore and some scenes, as well as the commendable skills of the actors, staff, and crew.

If he’ll be given the chance to switch roles with his co-actor, the versatile actor picked Joem Bascon’s Enzo because aside from the fact that it’s interesting, he also admires how the character has created a mark despite having little screen time.
