Viral Scandal star Karina Bautista has been vocal about her dream to join a national pageant in the future. So, to test her wit, which is one of the major qualities to look for in a beauty queen, Kapamilya Chat dared Karina to take on questions that were asked to our Miss Universe queens. Find out how she fared in the Q and A!

The first question was the one asked to Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz: “If a man from the moon lands in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?” Karina answered that she’d say ‘hello’ first. Then, assuming that the man is exhausted from his space mission, she’d prepare him Filipino food and treat him like an ordinary man, “Being away from his family, all he wants is to be back and be the same person as he was before he left to the moon.” Also, she wouldn’t forget to congratulate him, “Kasi being in the moon is not as easy as it sounds.”

The young actress’ take on Margie Moran’s question in 1973 was very practical. She’s asked, “Let’s make believe that all of a sudden you had a million dollars. What’s the first thing that you buy and why would you buy it?”

Karina’s initial reaction would be to buy a new house and car and use the money to support her parents, “They’re getting older and I want to give them the life that they deserve.” The million dollars, she said, would be enough to make her OFW mom come home, which is one of her ultimate wishes.

In 2015, Pia Wurtzbach’s answer to “Why should you be the next Miss Universe?” highlighted her campaign on HIV awareness capped off with her now iconic “confidently beautiful with a heart” phrase. Karina’s version talks about her three personal advocacies – providing healthcare for the elderly, better job opportunities, and sports inspired by her background in swimming.

“I think I should be the next Miss Universe because I am not only beautiful on the outside but I also know where and how to stand in terms of my advocacies. I have three. One is to provide more healthcare for the elder people because I believe, looking around, parang kulang tayo sa equipment… Better opportunities here in our country so that women like my mom don’t have to go outside to look for work and take care of other people aside from her daughter. And, siguro one last thing is to become pro-sports. I am a swimmer and I wasn’t given the opportunity to do my sport, to do one thing I really love because kulang tayo sa kagamitan. I think we focus too much on basketball and volleyball. It’s now time to open ourselves to new sports like swimming and other things,” said Karina.

Next question was “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how would you apply it to your time as a Miss Universe?” While Catriona Gray’s answer in 2018 focused on teaching people gratitude as a step to creating a positive world for children, Karina’s response was about believing in oneself to rise above one’s inner battles.

“I believe the most important lesson I’ve learned in my life is how to overcome those little battles that you think you can’t do. Don’t underestimate yourself and even though people don’t believe in you, always have faith in yourself. If time comes and a lot won’t love you, always stand by yourself because at least you love yourself and I think that’s the most important thing,” she smiled.

Lastly, the PBB alum took on recently-crowned Miss Universe-Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi’s question, “If you could stop time for a day, how would you spend it?” Karina replied, “If I could stop time for a day, I would go to the highest mountain and watch the sunrise and watch until it goes down. Because, I think that’s the only time you have so much peace. There’s no work or responsibility and I am not forced to live my life. I can be who I am.”
