MANILA (UPDATED) —  National University avoided déjà vu to complete its return trip to the UAAP women's volleyball championship stage.

Unlike last season, the Lady Bulldogs did not need a do-or-die game. Instead, they completed a thrilling reverse sweep against Far Eastern University, 20-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 17-15, during their Season 87 Final 4 faceoff on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Reigning two-time Most Valuable Player Bella Belen shone anew in another instant classic for the Jhocson-based spikers, posting 24 points, 14 digs, and 10 receptions in the victory that allowed them to enter their fourth straight Finals.

"Andito na kami, so kailangan naming ilaban," Belen said, even as she acknowledged that being down 0-2 to the Lady Tamaraws reminded her of what happened in the previous year.

In Season 86, FEU stunned NU in the first of their two meetings in the Final 4 in a sweep, but the eventual champions retaliated with their own three-set win vs. the Morayta-based spikers in Game 2.

"Siyempre, merong flashbacks, pero ni-remind ko lang sarili ko and yung teammates ko na hanggat hindi pa nakaka-tatlong set yung FEU, hindi pa tapos yung game," the veteran open-hitter said.

"Hangga't may chance kaming manalo, kailangan naming manalo, at hindi na namin inantay na magamit pa yung twice-to-beat namin. I'm very thankful na nag-respond sila," Belen added.

Aside from Belen, Alyssa Solomon was solid with 19 markers and five digs; Vange Alinsug provided 18 points, 14 receptions, and eight digs, while Lams Lamina tossed all but two of NU's 28 excellent sets.

The Lady Bulldogs are now awaiting the winner of the semifinals match between De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas.

On the other hand, Gerz Petallo dazzled with an all-around outing of 14 points, 14 receptions, and 13 assists, Jaz Ellarin stepped up by finishing also with 14, while Faida Bakanke led FEU in scoring with 15.

Unfortunately for FEU, these weren't enough as the Lady Tamaraws fell short of holding on to their 2-0 lead. When both teams were tied at 23 in the third, Belen gave her team some life with an off-the-block hit, while Alexa Mata put NU on the board with a service ace.

While both squads went on a push-and-pull affair in the fourth and fifth sets, it was the defending champions who managed to outlast their counterparts in the extension, as Belen sealed the last frame with another off-the-block kill which was followed by a crosscourt hit.
