MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Far Eastern University moved closer to a Final Four appearance.

This, as the Lady Tamaraws took out Ateneo de Manila University, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.

They moved up to a 8-4 win-loss slate, eliminating the reeling 4-8 Blue Eagles from Final 4 contention in the process.

After a closely fought three sets, the last one turned out to be a dominant showing for the green and gold, rallying to a 13-5 blitz anchored on Faida Bakanke and Gerz Petallo and never looked back.

In case they win in their next game date, it would be the Lady Tams' seventh semis appearance in the last nine season.

For coach Tina Salak, it's all about delivering the school's 30th championship.

"Pwede ko na ilapit konti. Ilalapit ko muna. For me, as being one of the members noon sa FEU volleyball program then ako yung may chance na makapagbigay ng 30th, isang milestone yun sa career ko," she said.

Bakanke took much of the scoring load with 19 points anchored on 15 attacks and four blocks, including four digs, while Petallo displayed her two-way play, listing 13 points to go with 12 digs and 14 receptions.

Salak's wards are also in contention still for a semis incentive, in case they triumph over their last two assignments -- Adamson and La Salle.

Ateneo, a traditional powerhouse in volleyball, has yet to see the end of the tunnel, failing to enter the Final Four for three straight seasons. AC Miner produced 17 markers and eight digs for the losing cause.
