Photo from UAAP Media.MANILA — Far Eastern University will be facing a familiar foe in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball Final 4.

Much like in Season 86, the Lady Tamaraws are set to face the Lady Bulldogs in the playoffs with a twice-to-beat disadvantage as they completed this year’s elimination round as the No.4 seed.

Even with their victory over De La Salle University on Saturday — a first for the Lady Tams since April 2019 in Season 81 — the Morayta-based spikers, due to an inferior set ratio, fell short of earning a chance to at least battle for a Top 2 spot.

In Season 86, Far Eastern U took the eventual champions to the limit in their semifinals clash by sweeping NU to force Game 2. Unfortunately for the Lady Tamaraws, the Lady Bulldogs retaliated with their own sweep in the decider to enter the Finals.

This time, however, the Tina Salak-coached squad is ready to redeem themselves, and they are confident that they know what it takes to overcome the Lady Bulldogs.

“Hindi po ibibigay lang yung game, so kailangan talagang pag hirapan,” said Gerz Petallo, who finished with 19 points, 11 receptions, and eight digs. “Pag nakalaban na po namin yung NU, talagang mas doble effort pa po yung gagawin namin.”

Meanwhile, Tin Ubaldo, who tossed 22 excellent sets, pointed out they should be wary of the prowess of the Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon-led Lady Bulldogs.

“NU, champion team, at kahit down sila ng ilang points, ng ilang sets, talagang kayang kaya nila bumalik,” she said. “Composed sila eh, at yung leaders nila, kaya nilang dalhin yung team nila.”

“So for us, ‘di kami aasa na ibibigay lang. Hindi madali sa Final 4, kaya kung kaya, triplehin dapat yung effort at yung trabaho,” added Ubaldo.

In the Season 87 eliminations, NU overcame FEU in five sets in Round 1, and the Sherwin Meneses-mentored team followed this up with a four-set win in Round 2.
