MANILA — (UPDATED)  De La Salle University survived yet another scoring onslaught from Adamson University's Shaina Nitura to keep its hunt for a twice-to-beat incentive in the UAAP Season 87 Final 4 alive.

The Lady Spikers outlasted Nitura and the Lady Falcons, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-4, during their women's volleyball clash on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, and Amie Provido starred for the Taft-based hitters, putting up 22, 21, and 14 points, respectively, but it was Shane Reterta who stepped up in the decider to help the Lasallians bounce back from their previous loss to University of the Philippines.

"Hanggat makakakaya ko po, at hanggang sa kung ano po yung mailalabas ko para sa team, gagawin ko," said the 19-year-old rookie, who delivered four of her nine points in the deciding set.

"At yung team po namin, 'di po basta-basta siya bibigay. Lalaban at lalaban po siya," she added.

La Salle kept the fight indeed as despite another 30-point game for NItura, the Lady Spikers were able to limit her to only scoring six in the fourth and fifth sets.

Fueled by their dominant win in the fourth set, La Salle opened the decider by winning 11 of the first 14 rallies, capped by an off-the-block hit from Reterta and an ace from Provido.

This eventually proved to be all they needed to seal the victory, as Canino, Reterta, and Lilay del Castillo delivered the closing blows to give the Lady Spikers their ninth win in 13 games.

This record is equal to University of Santo Tomas, but the Tigresses' set ratio advantage put the Lady Spikers at No.3 and UST at No.2.

La Salle needs to beat Far Eastern University on Saturday to, at the very least, secure themselves a playoff for the second spot.

If they lose, however, they will hope for UST to drop its game against National University on Sunday to still have a chance at the incentive.

On the other hand, super rookie Nitura fired 35 points — her sixth 30-point game in 13 outings — but they fell to 5-8.

Frances Mordi provided backup with 14, while Eloi Dote and Jen Villegas each had six.

Adamson's last assignment is against University of the Philippines. All remaining games are to be held at the Big Dome.
