MANILA, Philippines – PLDT will advance to the quarterfinals of the ongoing AVC Women's Champions League, the first among Philippine teams.

This, as Thai club Nakhon Ratchasima took out Australia's Queensland Pirates from contention in Pool D, 25-10, 25-16, 25-12, on Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

The Aussies absorbed defeat last night at the hands of PLDT, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, rendering them winless in group phase action.

Nakhon and the High Speed Hitters will be battling for number one seed in the said group on Tuesday, April 22, at the same venue.

In case the Kath Arado-captained squad loses against the Southeast Asian powerhouse, they will face the top team in Pool A in the next round.

But if Savi Davison and company emerge as the top-ranked team in Pool D, they will tackle the second seeded team in Pool A in the quarters.

Earlier on Monday, Beijing Baic Motor clinched a slot to the quarters after pulling off a reverse sweep versus VTV Binh Dien Long An, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10.

They won in the opening day against Saipa Tehran, 28-26, 25-22, 25-19, making them the first team to reach two wins.
