MANILA, Philippines – Creamline captain Alyssa Valdez on Sunday expressed gratitude for the chance to play for the flag once more.

The Cool Smashers are donning the national tri-colors in the Philippine-hosted AVC Women's Champions League alongside PLDT and Petro Gazz which started on Sunday, April 20.

They emerged triumphant in their first game, sweeping Al Naser Club of Jordan, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, at the PhilSports Arena for a 1-0 record in Pool A.

Valdez said representing the Philippines makes her extra motivated and inspired.

"Extra motivation talaga having the flag on our chest, and representing the Creamline Cool Smashers as well," Valdez expressed.

The former national team superstar proved to be a force on the international stage again, tallying 10 points on seven attacks, and two service aces. Six of those came through in the hardly-fought opening set.

"Doble-doble ‘yung motivation and inspiration to fight today. It’s just so nice to play always for the Philippines. We play like there’s no tomorrow all the time because these chances, opportunities given to us, hindi naman all the time, so we’re gonna grab it and try to represent the country well."

The former PSA Ms. Volleyball though admitted that playing for the flag again "never crossed my mind," but went on to share that she's "very excited and very happy" for the opportunity this time around.

Valdez last played for the national team in 2023 during the SEA Games in Cambodia.

"Well, very overwhelming for me just because I think it never crossed my mind to represent again the Philippines in any competition. We’ll take this. Not just me, but the whole Creamline Cool Smashers because we’re here because of the whole team din," the Ateneo great said.

"Very overwhelmed but very excited and very happy to be able to represent. It’s been a while since last 2023. I’m with coach Sherwin [Meneses] also back in Cambodia, so it’s nice always given that opportunity and the only thing that we could do is bring honor and pride to the country all the time."
