MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Petro Gazz Angels are the new queens of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

This, as the Angels toppled defending champion Creamline, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, completing a three-game escape in the Finals on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Angels have ended a two-year title drought, as their last crown was during the 2022 Reinforced Conference.

This was their first All-Filipino title since joining the league in 2018 and their third title in total — the first two were both in import-laced tournaments.

The Brooke Van Sickle-led squad also kept Creamline from winning a fifth consecutive crown.

Van Sickle, who was eventually named Conference MVP, tallied 21 points built on 17 attacks, two service aces, and two blocks including 18 excellent receptions and nine excellent digs. Spiker Jonah Sabete, who fired the championship point, delivered 16 points.

Middle blocker MJ Phillips, who was later on given the Finals MVP plum, did her part by contributing 15 points and imposing her defense at the net, listing four kill blocks.

Veteran Chie Saet orchestrated that championship-winning offense with 22 excellent sets.

"I'm just really proud of the team. We persevered through a lot. We had a lot of ups and downs. I'm just so proud," said Van Sickle after the match.

"I didn't want to lose that bad," Phillips expressed. "I just kept looking at my teammates and had the eye contact, knowing that everyone has my back."

Just when it was looking like a straight-set win for the Angels, who were by then up two sets to nothing, the Cool Smashers showed their heart in the third frame to force another period.

But it turned out to be Creamline's last comeback attempt as the erstwhile titleholders couldn't stop the Angels from clinching the trophy.

The Petro Gazz side uncorked a stunning 7-1 title-winning run from the 18-all count in Set 4, anchored on Van Sickle's clutch hits and ace, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas's down-the-line hit, Joy Dacoron's quick attack, and as mentioned, Sabete's game-winning spike to finally close out the best-of-three series.

"Everyone has just that fighting spirit and everyone's just great people, on and off the court, just selfless people," said Van Sickle.

"I'm just really grateful to be on this team, to be surrounded by such wonderful women, to be able to call them my friends and family, and to be able to learn from them and grow," she added.

Creamline's own MVPs in Bernadeth Pons and Jema Galanza paced the losing side with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
