Photo from UAAP Media.MANILA (UPDATED)— Shaina Nitura made history anew for Adamson University in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball.

The Lady Falcons’ prized rookie reset the league’s single-season scoring record en route to their 14-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-22 victory, Saturday afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The 20-year-old finished with 37 points — just one shy of her career-high — and this allowed her to tally a total of 314 points.

“First of all, thank You, Lord. Talagang lahat ng pagiging patient namin, sinusuklian Niya na yung hirap ng team,” said Nitura, who also had 13 digs, 12 receptions, and a set in the win.

”Talagang nilaban ng teammates ko at ginusto nilang manalo kahit wala na kaming chance sa Final 4. At least, nalaman namin na kaya talaga namin,” she added.

Nitura’s production is two more than Alyssa Valdez’s previous record of 312 which the Ateneo de Manila University legend set in Season 75 in 2015

Prior to this, the Cainta native also broke the league’s most points scored in a single game with 38, set the most 30+ point games in a single season with five, and previously reset the record for most points scored by a rookie in her very first UAAP game with 33.

These feats, including the latest one, helped Adamson improve to 5-7 in the team standings.

And while they are now officially out of Final 4 contention as University of Santo Tomas’ earlier win put them at 8-4, Nitura said that they are still on the right track when it comes to looking at the bigger picture of their program.

“I’m really happy and we’re really grateful kasi sobrang laki ng tulong nito for our coming seasons,” she said. “Thankful ako na kahit hindi kami makakapasok ng Final 4, yung learnings na nakuha namin ay sobrang laking foundation for us.”

After absorbing a setback in the opener, the Lady Falcons went on to outscore the playoff-seeking Lady Tamaraws in the next frames, with Adamson U asserting their advantage in the blocking department (12-5) and in aces (5-3).

Adamson then saw itself ahead 22-20, and Nitura completed her feat by scoring the last three points for her squad.

These eventually proved to be all AdU needed to not only win the game, but also prevent FEU from making its spot in the postseason official just yet.

Nitura can add more to her historic records as they will still face University of the Philippines and De La Salle University before they wrap up their Season 87 assignments.

On the other hand, FEU fell to 8-5, and their postseason hopes now hang in the balance with two possible scenarios: If UP loses to De La Salle University tomorrow, the Final 4 cast will be complete—composed of NU, La Salle, UST, and FEU.

However, if the Fighting Maroons pull off an upset against the Lady Spikers, the Lady Tamaraws will need to win their final elimination match against La Salle on Saturday, April 26, at the same Cubao venue to book their ticket to the semifinals.

Gerz Petallo paced FEU in the loss with 18 points on 15 attacks with 14 excellent receptions and 11 digs, while Chenie Tagaod tallied 12 points on 11 attacks with seven excellent receptions and seven excellent digs.

Team captain Tin Ubaldo dished out 18 excellent sets in the losing effort.
