The Lady Falcons, led by Nitura’s 37-point performance, served as a spoiler to Far Eastern University which was looking to formalize its entry into the Season 87 Final 4 as the San Marcelino-based hitters scored a four-set victory over the Lady Tamaraws.
Aside from another high-scoring performance from the 20-year-old rookie, Nitura also reset the UAAP’s single-season scoring record at 314, breaking Ateneo de Manila University legend Alyssa Valdez’s previous feat of 312 which she set in Season 77 in 2015.
“‘Di ko po alam kung anong mafe-feel ko,” said Nitura, who also had 13 digs and 12 receptions in the win.
Aside from this record, Nitura also had three prior feats that she set and broke earlier in the season.
The Cainta native torched the Blue Eagles in her very first UAAP game with 33 points, the erstwhile record for the most points scored by a rookie.
Nitura also currently holds the most 30+ point games in a single season with five, and she also reset the most points scored in a single game in the women’s division with 38.
However, the former Adamson High School superstar emphasized that these are all a surprise for her.
“‘Di ko siya in-expect,” she said.
However, one who was not surprised is Lady Falcons JP Yude.
Sa maraming players, meron kami talagang separated, na above sa talent, so we are blessed,” said Yude, who also coached Nitura in the high school ranks.
And with the prowess that Nitura has been displaying so far, Yude reminds the super rookie to remain grounded, and continue serving as an inspiration to those around her.
“So I just remind her to be humble all the time,” he insisted.
