Canino, whose neck was inadvertently hit by the knee of her teammate Shevana Laput in the 2-0 mark of the fourth set of their match, immediately exited the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday in an ambulance.

“After the game, siyempre emotional, tapos actually, naapektuhan rin siya nung tinamaan siya ni Shevana sa batok,” said Lady Spikers deputy Noel Orcullo after the contest to give an initial update on their star.  “Parang nahihilo, tapos sinasabi nila na si Angel, hindi maganda yung [kondisyon], so kinuha agad ng mga PT namin at ng mga doktor namin.”

“I had hit the ball, and she was behind me, but she had fallen on the floor and I was still landing,” detailed Laput. “I couldn’t balance myself, and unfortunately, my knee hit her neck.”

Canino still managed to finish the contest and even top-scored for DLSU with 27 points (24 attacks, two blocks, one ace), on top of 13 receptions and 13 digs.

La Salle is now hoping for a quick recovery from Canino as they are set to face an Ateneo de Manila University side which is riding a three-game win streak.

“Hopefully, maging maayos at hindi maging malala yung naging tama sa kanya,” said Orcullo.
