This, after the tournament’s emblem and official slogan Master The Speed were unveiled at Whitespace Manila in Makati.

“You may not believe it, but this is the first time that I saw the logo and I’m very excited and happy,” an ecstatic John Gutierrez told reporters after the event.

“Finally, the brand launched, and finally, we made the world know that futsal is here in the Philippines,” he added.

The Philippine women’s national futsal team will battle 15 others here from November 23 to December 7 later this year, with the victor being crowned as the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Champions.

Aside from futsal glory, Gutierrez said this is also momentous for women’s sports in general.

“It is an honor for our country to host the first-ever edition of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, and we are proud to welcome the world’s best national teams for a tournament that will inspire girls and women to pursue a career in sport,” he said.

“This tournament will capture the imagination of fans in the Philippines and beyond, forging a path for future generations,” Gutierrez added, before sharing developments with the Local Organizing Committee as well as Victorias City, one of the tournament’s official venues.

“You know, before this, they were already working behind the scenes,” he said of the LOC. “Now, I’m sure they are ready to showcase the Philippines.”

As for the Victorias City Coliseum in Negros Occidental, appropriate renovations are already being made.

“They just have to do a few modifications in the stadium, but the local government wants to showcase how well Filipinos host,” said Gutierrez. “They are making sure that the facility is top-notch and world-class.”

The Philippines and New Zealand have already booked their slot in the tournament, four squads from Europe will be decided later this week, while three teams from South America will be finalized at the end of the month.

In addition, upon the AFC preliminary’s conclusion on 17 May, three other Asian teams, a pair from Africa and two from North, Central America, and the Caribbean will have been added to the list of participating countries.
