Photo from UAAP Media.MANILA — Adamson University's prized rookie, Shaina Nitura, etched her name in the UAAP record books after a 38-point explosion for the Lady Falcons on Sunday.

The 20-year-old not only reset her previous career-best earlier in Season 87 of 33, but she also set the league’s most points in a single women’s volleyball game during their clash vs. University of the Philippines to end Round 1.

Nitura broke the previous record of 35 which was set by Ateneo de Manila University legend Alyssa Valdez in Season 75 (2013) — putting up 31 attacks, three blocks, and an ace vs. Adamson — and was tied by former University of Santo Tomas star Sisi Rondina later on in Season 81 (2019).

Unfortunately, the Cainta native’s historic performance went for naught as they were defeated by the Fighting Maroons in five sets, and this sent them to 2-5 after the first round as they absorbed their fourth straight loss.

Following this, Nitura went on to beg off from postgame interviews, and just as silent was her head coach JP Yude who also declined to comment on his star’s performance, and their loss in general.

Among those in awe of Nitura, however, was UP head coach Benson Bocboc.

“Given na yun, na si Nitura, possible talagang she can score that many points,” said the first-year Maroons head coach, whose team improved to 3-4 at the end of Round 1. “Even more pa.

Bocboc explained that one of State U’s game plans was to focus on Nitura, especially with her capabilities to put up a lot of points on the board in any given game.

“Tulong-tulong talaga kami kasi yun yung binabantayan namin sa kanila,” he said. “‘Pag may nawawala sa plano eh binabalik lang natin sila kasi we need to work as a group talaga. Hindi pwedeng isa-isa.”

”Doon sa kabila, alam naman natin na siya talaga makakapatay [ng bola], kaya medyo naka-focus nang extra yung defense sa kanyam pero lumulusot parin eh,” he added.

Despite allowing Nitura to make history against them, UP was able to escape with the win in five sets, and they improved to 3-4 after the first round.
