MANILA (UPDATED) — De La Salle University vented its ire on Adamson University to earn its first win of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament.

Lady Spikers standouts Angel Canino and Alleiah Malaluan led their team to a 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 victory during their Saturday evening matchup at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Canino posted 15 points with six digs and two receptions, while Malaluan had 16 markers and four receptions to help La Salle bounce back from its opening-day loss to National University last week.

"Actually, maraming learnings po sa amin," said Canino after the contest. "Coming back from a game na talo, ang dami naming learnings na nakuha."

"Ang dami naming realizations as a team and as individuals na nakatulong para ibalik namin yung sarili namin at yung kumpyansa na meron kami," she continued.

La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus mirrored his star's sentiments, saying that their loss helped the Lady Spikers to start regaining their form.

"Nung first game namin, kulang kami sa paniniwala sa sarili namin," the multi-titled mentor said. "Doon sa mga pinagdaanan namin nung game last Sunday, may mga natutunan yung mga bata na kailangang ma-overcome yung pressure."

This was indeed the case as after a close encounter in the first two sets, with Adamson even taking La Salle to the limit in the second, 26-24, the Lady Spikers went on to open the third with a 5-to-1 start.

The Taft-based hitters extended their cushion to six, 9-3, and this was eventually all DLSU needed to tally its first win of Season 87 despite Adamson getting back to as close as one, 15-14 after an attack error by La Salle at that mark all thanks to the efforts by Canino and Malaluan.

Shevana Laput was also a contributor in La Salle's win, posting 10 markers with three digs, while also a factor was rookie setter Mikole Reyes who stepped up to de Jesus' challenge by tossing 15 of their total 15 sets.

On the other hand, the Lady Falcons, who now also sit at 1-1 at the conclusion of this game, were led anew by super rookie Shaina Nitura who had 16 points, four digs, and three receptions.

Frances Mordi followed with 12 markers on top of eight digs and four receptions, while Mayang Nique chipped in five points and five digs.
