MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – At 37 years old, Rachel Anne Daquis proved that she still has plenty left in the tank.

The veteran Daquis played her best game yet in a Farm Fresh uniform to lead the Foxies to a reverse sweep of Capital1, 18-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-12, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

She weathered cramps late in the match to fire the game-winning attack and seal the five-set win over the struggling Solar Spikers.

Before cruising to a Set 4 win and force a decider, the Foxies had to first endure Capital1's comeback attempt in the third frame, where the latter forced an extended set despite falling to a 17-8 hole.

But Daquis and Bertolano notched points off a block and a sharp spike, 26-24, to help Farm Fresh get on board.

The fifth set saw a thrilling finish when Capital1 again tried to claw its way back.

From the 12-11 mark, Caitlin Viray and Rizza Cruz put Farm Fresh on the verge of victory after off-the-block and down-the-line hits respectively, 14-11.

Leila Cruz of the Solar Spikers saved one match point after scoring one through the block, but Daquis, as mentioned, earned the privilege to close out the five-set marathon which lasted two hours and 37 minutes with a crosscourt kill.

The Far Eastern University (FEU) product tallied a game-high 19 points built on 17 attacks and two blocks to go with 13 excellent digs to show the way for the Foxies.

"Actually, nung first and second [sets] nag-struggle ako, pero mas na-motivate kasi kaya nga nandito ako para tulungan sila eh, hindi para mas bumaba kami," Daquis said during the postgame interview.

"So [nandoon 'yung] eagerness ko talaga makatulong hanggang nakuha ko ‘yung laro ko. Hindi ko sinukuan ‘yung sarili ko and para sa team ko. Masaya ako nakabalik ako and nakatulong sa team," she went on.

They also played without rising star opposite spiker Trisha Tubu, who is recuperating from back spasms.

Viray filled the void left by Tubu, listing 14 points including three blocks.

"Ako siguro more of para kay Tubs [Trisha Tubu] din kasi dinala niya kami dito, talagang trinabaho niya talaga 'yung mga past games namin so habang nagre-recover siya, sana hindi na niya isipin 'yung puwesto na naiwanan niya — focus muna siya sa recovery," the 26-year-old said.

Cruz also delivered 13 attack points, while Bertolano and rookie Pierre Abellana added 10 each for the scoring.

Meanwhile, Capital1's Heather Guino-o and Cruz paced the losing side with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Farm Fresh (5-6) put a period in its preliminary round campaign with a win, while the Capital1 (1-10) side, which even led by two set wins, absorbed another defeat after a meltdown.
