In a lengthy post on Instagram, Tolentino on Tuesday night shared how she has been during the past week after undergoing surgery for a ruptured appendix.

"This was not how I wanted my 30th birthday to go. But maybe it was an experience God knew I needed. It’s funny saying that because why would He want this for me," the former Ateneo standout said.

Tolentino said her recent scare made her experience "the worst pain," so far.

"This was probably the worst pain I’ve experienced, I had a fever for almost a week, and went to the ER twice because my condition was misdiagnosed. On top of that, there were also some other complications that came up. Everything that could go wrong went wrong," she said.

Nonetheless, she kept the faith, and went on to share how holding unto God kept her going.

"But because of God’s Grace he still protected me from the worse. He reminded me that we are all human and we do not have control over the things that happen to us. He reminded me that even when I felt like I was so far from Him he was still right there the whole time," she said.

Despite all the hardships, Tolentino expressed gratitude as she had a chance to power through.

"My mindset with every setback has always been 'Ok, how can I comeback from this,' 'How can I become stronger,' 'When can I start again?' But for the first time, the first thought that came into my head was 'Thank God, I’m alive.'"
