The PLDT High Speed Hitters. Handout photoMANILA, Philippines – PLDT could not ask for a better start in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Although they had to overcome some in-game lapses, the High Speed Hitters kicked off their campaign with back-to-back wins, with the latest banking on the scoring prowess of Fil-Canadian star spiker Savi Davison and hitter Erika Santos in their encounter against Galeries last Tuesday.

They defeated the gutsy Highrisers in hardly fought three sets, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, Rizal.

According to captain Kath Arado and middle blocker Mika Reyes, they remain laser-focused on their targets this time: improving and getting better to prepare for each game.

The PLDT skipper also bared that their bond became stronger after their controversial exit during the 2024 Reinforced Conference.

"After nung nangyari sa amin last conference, siguro mas masasabi ko na mas tumibay 'yung bond namin as a team," Arado said.

"Ang mindset ko kasi palagi, dapat every training lagi kong ibigay yung one hundred percent ko para pagdating sa actual games, sanay yung katawan at isip ko sa pressure at hirap dahil alam kong lahat ng team, pinaghahandaan palagi ang bawat game," the libero added.

"We are all still proud and motivated. When we talk, it’s mostly about how we can improve our game from the previous conference," said Reyes. "We’ve got a solid team, and we’re putting in the work every day. We’re focused on one game at a time, but we believe we can go far if we keep improving and stick to our game plan."

With the system all laid out by Rald Ricafort and his coaching staff, and by embracing a "Pusong PLDT" mantra, the team is just — as cliché as it might be — trusting the process.

And according to the 5-foot-9 Davison, Ricafort's system "is working."

"Coach Rald [Ricafort] and the rest of the staff have created a system that works for us," said Davison, who produced 28 points anchored on 26 attacks against the Highrisers.

"As athletes, we must trust that system and fully commit to the process to perfect it. The coaches work to identify aspects of our game that can be improved and show us how to apply those improvements by simulating game-time situations and creating pressure," she added.

PLDT aims for three straight wins in the PVL as it battles Capital1 on Tuesday, November 26, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
