MANILA -- Participants can now earn ranking points in the Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia, after its organizers inked a partnership with the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.

The event, presented by HOKA and GOMO, is now sanctioned by World Athletics.

"Gusto naming makatulong on how we can help improve our local athletes through our races and provide a platform for them to not just use it as a qualifier for the international races but also maybe lead to them becoming national athletes," said RUNRIO president and CEO Rio de la Cruz on Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

Cagayan de Oro will lift the curtains for the series on March 2, with subsequent first legs will happen in Iloilo (March 9), Manila (March 16), Davao (March 23), and Cebu (March 30) catering to the 5K, 10K, and 16K races.

"We've opened about 10,000 slots for the first leg and we're happy to say that it's already sold out," said de la Cruz.

The second leg of the series will have 5K, 10K, and 16K races and is slated from May to June, while the third legs which will have 5K, 10K, and 21K races will be from July to August.

The National Finals will have 5K, 10K, 21K, and 42K races on Nov. 9 at the SM Mall of Asia Complex.

The Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia also has Gatorade as official sports drink, Le Minerale as official hydration partner, Seiko and Nyxsys as sponsors, and has teamed up with local organizers Coco Running (Cebu), Horizons Concepts Unlimited (Iloilo), Cagayan Circle Production (Cagayan de Oro), and Kinetix Sports (Davao).

"We're happy to see the running community get bigger and see more organizers stage more events. At the end of the day, we just want to encourage the public to be more active and embrace a healthy lifestyle," said de la Cruz.
