Premier sports officials to grace PSA Awards Night

MANILA -- Premier officials of Philippine sports will pay their tribute to all achievers of the year 2024 when they join in the celebration of the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night on Monday at the Manila Hotel.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann will team up with Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino as they lead the local sports community in cheering the athletes, officials, and other individuals who made the year just passed truly a memorable one behind their respective exploits.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) representative Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski and Senator Bong Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, are also expected to lend their hands in the traditional gala night highlighting the best of Philippine sports.

Commissioners Bong Coo, Edward Hayco, Fritz Gaston, and Walter Torres are also on the list of top sports officials along with PSC Executive Director Paulo Francisco Tatad.

Invitations were also extended to two of the country’s top sports patrons in SMC President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon S. Ang and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation Chairman and President Manny V. Pangilinan.

POC 1st Vice President Al S. Panlilio, secretary general Atty. Wharton Chan, and other high-ranking officers of the country’s Olympic body have also been invited together with leaders of the various National Sports Associations (NSAs) — PBA Chairman Ricky Vargas, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, San Miguel Corporation Sports Director Alfrancis Chua, PVL President Ricky Palou, among others.

The registration for the star-studded gathering starts at 5 p.m., while the program proper is at 7 p.m.

The country’s oldest media organization headed by Nelson Beltran, sports editor of The Philippine Star, is honoring gymnast Carlos Yulo as the deserving recipient of the highly-coveted Athlete of the Year accolade for his historic performance of winning the country’s first ever Olympic double gold during the Paris Games.

Awardees, officials, and guests who failed to personally get their invitations may claim it at the registration desk of the Centennial Hall of the same venue.
