MANILA — Four Filipino jet ski riders recently made waves at the Water World Grand Prix last month in Thailand.

Vito Tinio, Angelo Ventus, Louie Buhisan, and Enzo Pontino brought pride to the Philippines with their performances which led to them securing top spots in various categories.

Filipino jet ski riders made waves at the Water World Grand Prix 2024, held in December, as Angelo Ventus, Enzo Pontino, Vito Tinio, and Louie Buhisan brought pride to the Philippines with their performances. The young athletes showcased their skills and determination, securing top spots in various categories.

Ventus claimed the prestigious Triple Crown World Champion title in the Novice Runabout Stock category, but he shared the hurdles that he had to go through before clinching the win.

“It was very challenging. Every weekend, we go to Subic. It’s very hard, especially balancing school and training. After training, we travel to international races in Thailand, Poland, Japan, and the US,” the 18-year-old shared.

“Nakaka-flatter po na tinatawag akong isang champion. Pero sa hard work namin lahat, mga riders, deserve naman po namin.”

Also a winner was Pontino, as he earned the Championship title in Novice Ski Stock.

“I’m very happy that we won in Thailand. It’s my passion, racing in jet ski, and I’m proud to raise the Philippine flag,” he said.

Tinio, for his part, proved that age is just a number as he secured fourth place in the Junior Spark 13-15 Stock category.

“Very proud po and very nervous po to wave the Philippine flag. Overall, I’m just very happy to be able to represent the Team and the Philippines,” said the 13-year-old, the youngest member of the group.

On the other hand, Buhisan excelled in multiple events as he earned a second-place finish in the Endurance Open (World Series,) and third place in the Pro-Am 1100 Open (King’s Cup, Asian Cup, and World Series).

Meanwhile, coach BJ Ang had nothing but praise for the quartet and their performance in the Thailand tournament.

“I can say that they’re the best team not only because of their dedication,” the mentor said. “During my days in the 90s, we had a good team, and Filipinos have always had the skills. Filipinos are athletic and proud; hindi lang na-appreciate ng mga tao. Ang Pinoy may talento — kailangan mo lang tulungan at itulak ng kaunti.”

The team is now gearing up for the 2025 season as they aim to continue their dominance in the same tourney.
