MANILA -- Rising Filipina tennis star Tennielle Madis (ITF #296) took home the ITF J60 girls’ singles title after a hard-earned two-set victory against Jiyun Oh (ITF #468) of Korea.

This marked her sixth ITF singles title of 2024.

It was a dominant first set for Madis, 6-2. The Korean, though, fought back and took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd set, but Madis was relentless, coming back to lead 3-2. The next matches had long rallies, with both girls utilizing strong groundstrokes and a couple of drop shots.

Madis led 6-5. Her rival forced a tiebreak, but the Filipina pushed hard to win it all along the title, 6-2;7-6.

The 17-year-old, whose ITF ranking will jump to about #211, fell to the ground after winning a match point and had to be treated for cramps.

"Sobrang saya ko po. Salamat sa PTA, [kina] Romy Chan, Oscar Hilado, Coach Bobbie Angelo, April Toledo at lahat sa suporta," she said.

Yesterday, Madis also clinched the doubles title with PTA Teammate Stef Aludo.

The Filipina received her singles champion trophy from Philta President Eric Olivarez, Sec Gen John Rey Tiangco, Exec Director Tonette Mendoza, Board Member April Toledo, and Coca-Cola Head Tony Boy Del Rosario.

The Filipina is scheduled to have 4 ITF Jr Tournaments again in 2025.
