MANILA -- Filipino VCT Pacific rookie Patrick "PatMen" Mendoza made an impressive debut in the tier 1 stage with Paper Rex, but they remained winless after falling to an undefeated BOOM Esports, 1-2.

The former NAOS and ZOL Esports player was given the team MVP honors in two maps and the map MVP berth in their single win in the series.

Despite PatMen's contribution to the W Gaming squad, they could not stop the undefeated streak of the Indonesian Ascension squad who are now the first qualified team for Stage 1 playoffs.

Prior to the match, PRX mainstay Aaron "mindfreak" Leonhart made way for PatMen in the lineup and even walked out as the coach in place of Alexandre "alecks" Sallé. Throughout the series, mindfreak was seen sitting next to alecks in the coaches' booth.

In Pearl, PRX had the initial lead until the sixth round where BOOM won six straight rounds to end the half at 4-8.

PRX tried to play catch up in the second half, but BOOM was too close to match point and concluded the map at 10-13.

In Ascent, PRX dominated BOOM in the first half by limiting the Hungry Beasts to only 2 rounds.

BOOM began to catch up by winning 6 straight rounds, but PRX stopped them in time by winning the remaining rounds and even PatMen capping the map with a one versus one clutch.

Fracture was a close affair with BOOM taking the lead in the first half at 5-7. But they eventually extended the lead in the second half and ran away the series at 9-13.

PRX will need to win their remaining matches and depend on the results of other teams' matches in order to gain a spot in the playoffs. They will face DFM on April 14 and Global Esports on April 19.
