Photo from PBA Images.MANILA — Scottie Thompson made history anew after delivering a career night for Barangay Ginebra on Sunday.</div>The one-time PBA Most Valuable Player erupted for 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists as the Gin Kings pulled off a 105-91 victory over the San Miguel Beermen in Game 4 of the Season 50 Philippine Cup semifinals, knotting the series at 2-2.<div style="line-height:1.5"><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/1/11/pba-thompson-s-career-game-powers-ginebra-over-san-miguel-to-even-semis-series-1926">READ: Thompson’s career-game powers Ginebra over San Miguel to even semis series</a></div>Aside from turning the matchup into a virtual best-of-three affair, Thompson’s performance also etched his name into the record books.According to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Thompson became the first local player in 33 years to record a 30-point triple-double.The last to accomplish the feat was PBA legend and current Ginebra deputy coach Johnny Abarrientos, who posted 30 points, 15 rebounds, and 14 assists for the Alaska Milkmen in a 115-103 loss to Swift during the All-Filipino Conference on April 11, 1993.Thompson also became the first player to register a 30-point triple-double in a win since the 1990 All-Filipino Conference. That feat was last achieved by another PBA legend, Ronnie Magsanoc, who tallied 32 points, 18 assists, and 13 rebounds for Shell in a 155-108 victory over Pepsi.And speaking of legends, this was exactly how Ginebra head coach Tim Cone described Thompson’s outing against San Miguel.“It was a legendary performance. I think we’re going to remember this for a very long time,” Cone said. “There’s no doubt it was legendary. He was more aggressive tonight, and that made him more of a threat, which opened up passing lanes for him.”Despite the historic showing, Thompson downplayed his feat.“Luckily, it was a good night for me,” said Thompson, who was instrumental in Ginebra’s 16-point comeback.“We just fought hard and battled every quarter. We found our rhythm as a team, and that’s what’s most important. We lifted each other and stayed together,” he added.For Thompson, consistency remains the priority as the Gin Kings look to regain the series lead in Game 5 — not necessarily replicating monster numbers, but bringing the same hunger and grit.“Every game is different, but our approach and intensity remain the same,” he emphasized.Game 5 is set for Wednesday, January 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
