The Chito Victolero-coached squad, all thanks to a second-quarter surge, zoomed past TerraFirma Dyip, 127-94, during their Sunday evening showdown at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, Rizal.

This was the fifth straight win of the Hotshots, while the Dyip now sits at 1-4 in the team standings.

”We have a good start compared to our last two conferences, but we’re still far from our goal so we’ll still keep on working hard,” said Victolero after the game.

Former UP Fighting Maroon Zav Lucero shone anew for Magnolia, putting up 17 points, nine rebounds, and an assist for his squad, while Paul Lee fired 13 points, eight of which came from four-point range, and this was complemented by three boards and a dime.

“It’s just putting in consistent work,” said Lucero. “My teammates found me, and my coaches trust me.”

On the other hand, promising big Louie Sangalang led his squad with a 19-point, 12-rebound game on top of seven assists, while veterans Stanley Pringle and Kevin Ferrer were solid as the two scored 17 points each.

Unfortunately for the hapless Dyip, they weren't able to stop the Hotshots’ surge to start the second frame.

As they were only trailing by four, 31-27, early in the same quarter, Magnolia went on a massive 23-to-nothing charge that was built on baskets from Lucero, Jerrick Ahanmisi, Rome Dela Rosa, and James Laput.

Not only did Magnolia double on its counterparts, 54-27, but it also used this momentum to eventually distance itself by as much as 33 later in the contest.
