LOS ANGELES -- Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has made "significant improvement" in his recovery from a blood clot as the team prepares for the opening rounds of the NBA playoffs, team officials said on Tuesday.

In a brief statement on social media, Bucks general manager Jon Horst said Lillard had been given the green light to ramp up his rehabilitation but gave no indication as to when the nine-time All-Star might return.

"Damian's most recent weekly scan shows that his injury has significantly improved which will enable him to move ahead safely with increased basketball activity," Horst said.

"Damian's health remains our No. 1 priority. We have followed strict protocols and will continue to do so. We are pleased with the positive news about Damian's progress."

Milwaukee open their playoff campaign against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. ESPN reported earlier on Tuesday that Lillard would not be fit for game one of the best-of-seven series.

Lillard, 34, has not played since being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right calf following his last appearance on March 18.

The veteran point guard had been averaging just under 25 points per game this season with 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists, forming a potent offensive partnership alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.
