MANILA -- Xavier Nunag has resigned as the UAAP's basketball commissioner to focus on his other business pursuits, the league announced on Saturday.

His resignation will be effective on April 18, 2025.

Nunag oversaw the UAAP basketball competition from Season 86 until Season 87. He was the acting commissioner of the UAAP Season 85 High School Boys' Basketball Tournaments.

"On behalf of the UAAP, we extend our deepest gratitude to Commissioner Xavy Nunag for his service to the league," said UAAP Season 87 Treasurer Dolreich "Bo" Perasol of host school University of the Philippines.

"His leadership introduced meaningful innovations in our basketball officiating and tournament management, and we are truly thankful for the dedication and professionalism he brought to the role."

During Nunag's tenure, the Basketball Commissioner's Office also had two deputies in Marvin Bienvenida for the high school boys and junior high school boys divisions, and Atty. Mariana Lopa for the collegiate women's and high school girls' divisions.

Atty. Lopa stepped down earlier this year to pursue another direction in her career in sports.

Bienvenida, who continues to serve the league, has been designated as the acting basketball commissioner for the upcoming 3x3 basketball tournaments in May.

"It has been a pleasure working with Commissioners Xavy and Atty. Mariana. Their contributions have greatly elevated the standard of our basketball tournaments," said UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene Andrei "Rebo" Saguisag Jr.

"We are confident that Commissioner Marvin will continue the fine work they have started as we get ready for the 3x3 season. Maraming salamat."
