Despite competing sans Camille Clarin who suffered an apparent right knee injury on Saturday evening, the No.22-ranked Philippines overwhelmed Mongolia, 19-15, to advance into the tournament’s semifinals stage.

Mikka Cacho rallied the Clarin-less Gilas side, putting up a game-high nine points on top of six rebounds, while Jhaz Joson and Kaye Pingol each put up five markers in the victory.

Trailing 10-3 midway through the 10-minute game, the Filipina trio stormed back into the contest by outscoring their opponents in the next four minutes, 15-2, a run which was capped off by a Cacho basket at the 56-second mark.

Khulan Onolbaatar drained a deuce to stop the bleeding and bring Mongolia to within four, 18-14, with still 49 ticks left in the contest, but Jhozon iced the game 10 seconds later after a basket that extended their lead to five.

Onolbaatar led her team with seven points, Bulbul Murat and Ariuntsetseg Bat-Erdene each had three markers, while Narangoo Erdenebayan finished with two points in their loss.

With the result, the Philippines will now face Japan in the semis tonight at 6:25 p.m.
