MANILA — Kieffer Alas is looking to impose his prowess anew in the upcoming 2025 National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) later this month.

Fresh from his UAAP Season 87 high school boys stint — one wherein he earned the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum — Alas is set to return for his third stint in the NBTC, this time with Blue Fire.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Alas, who put up 20.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals for De La Salle-Zobel in Season 87, said on Monday during the pre-tournament press conference in Pasay City.

“Coming off a positive stint in the UAAP, sana madala ko yun sa NBTC, and for us to bring home the championship,” added the Las Piñas native, whose team will be competing in the NBTC’s Under-19 Wild Card.

The 6-foot-2, Gilas Pilipinas youth ace led the Junior Archers to a decent Season 87 campaign albeit falling short of the Final 4 with their 6-8 record.

Alas’ numbers also allowed him to become the first player from Zobel to win the league’s top individual plum since Aljun Melecio in Season 78 (2016).

With the eventful high school season that he just concluded, Alas also aims to set an example for the other hopefuls that he will be competing with and against in the NBTC.

“I’m just grateful that I have the opportunity, as Rank No.1, to inspire younger kids,” he pointed out.

But after this short tournament which will be from March 31 until April 6, what’s next for one of, if not, the country’s most highly-touted U19 player today?

“The initial plan is to fly to Australia for training, then we’ll see after,” said Alas, who shared that he will be joining an NBL Training Camp in Perth.

The 17-year-old Alas is even still eligible to return for another go-around with La Salle in Season 88, but he was mum on what his next plans are.

“Let’s just see what happens,” he said.
