MANILA -- The San Sebastian College-Recoletos men's basketball team is in search of a new "godfather" after concluding its partnership with the team's previous backer.

Rev. Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR expressed his gratitude to the management team put up by Joseph Ronquillo, which handled the Golden Stags for one season.

"The San Sebastian College-Recoletos community would like to thank Mr. Ronquillo for all the support, encouragement and the resources he put in our Season 100 campaign. While we fell short on our mission, it was one great ride with the management team he formed and we greatly appreciated it," Pecson said in a statement.

"We wish Mr. Ronquillo success in his future endeavors," he added.

The Golden Stags, coached by Arvin Bonleon, languished in ninth place in the NCAA Season 100 tournament. They managed just a 6-12 record, though the team showed signs of promise by winning three of their last five assignments -- including an upset of traditional rival San Beda in their final game.

Pecson said the school is now "looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas and resources which are vital in enhancing the capabilities of each member of the team as we strive for excellence."

"The school community and its fans are eager to hear the roar of 'Bravo Baste!' once again and hopefully we can hear it in the coming season," he added.

San Sebastian last made the NCAA Final 4 in the league's 2019 season. Their last championship came in 2009, behind the celebrated "Pinatubo Trio" of Calvin Abueva, Ian Sangalang and Ronald Pascual.
