MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – TNT continued its hot streak in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup, going unbeaten in a six-game stretch.

The Tropang Giga emerged triumphant against their Governors' Cup rival Ginebra as they faced each other again for the first time since the last Finals, 91-86, on Friday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

They also seized the top spot in the process, becoming the team with the least losses at two.

"In a lot way of ways, Ginebra just had many weapons so we just had to do pick our poison. We had a 10-point lead in the last four minutes and it nearly wasn't enough. We knew they would come back," said TNT coach Chot Reyes of Ginebra during the postgame press conference.

The always-spectacular Ginebra import Justin Brownlee spearheaded a comeback attempt late in the game, converting on a four-point play and on a driving layup, but it fell short, as Calvin Oftana later on sank the clutch freebies off a duty foul to settle the final score.

Oftana gained the Player of the Game citation after finishing with a game-high 32 points and seven rebounds, while reinforcement Rondae Hollis-Jefferson still had a decent 25-point output despite shooting on a dismal 6-of-17 clip, although he garnered 13 boards and six assists.

Brownlee paced the losing team with a double-double of 20 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, but committed six turnovers.

Ginebra, as it absorbed its fourth loss in ten matches, fell to seventh place. A bounce back win is certainly on the Gin Kings' minds as they take on Rain or Shine, set on Wednesday, January 22 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

TNT, meanwhile, has somehow an easier task as it battles hapless Terrafirma next at the same game date as Ginebra's.
