The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde star solidified his place as the grand-old league’s best player after he was named as the Season 100 men’s basketball Most Valuable Player (MVP) in just his first year with the Blazers.

Liwag topped all players with 52.38 Player Average Value (PAVs), a result of his 14.61 points, 11.28 rebounds, 2.33 assists, 1.22 blocks, and 0.66 steals in 18 games in the elimination round.

His prowess also proved to be on both ends of the floor as he was also Season 100’s Defensive Player of the Year with 13.06 DSPs after he scattered 203 rebounds, 22 blocks, and 10 steals.

These numbers cemented Liwag’s place in the centennial season’s Mythical Five alongside Mapua University’s Clint Escamis (41.44 PAVs), Lyceum of the Philippines’ Ato Barba (40.83 PAVs), his teammate Tony Ynot (39.64 PAVs), and San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ TJ Felebrico (39.5 PAVs).

On the other hand, Felebrico joins Liwag in the All-Defensive Team with 10.06 DSPs, and completing the list are Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Kevin Santos (8.81 DSPs), Arellano University’s Renz Capulong (8.78 DSPs), and Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Wilmar Oftana (8.61 DSPs).

Speaking of Capulong, the AU Chiefs big man also received the Most Improved Player (MIP) award of Season 100.

Previously ranked as the 33rd player in terms of PAVs (Season 99), Capulong jumped 18 places, now at the 15th spot, to get the MIP award.

He put up 11.83 points, 6.56 rebounds, 1.11 assists, 1.22 steals, and a block in 18 games in Rounds 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, Cardinals young star Chris Hubilla also received recognition for his vital play for the Intramuros-based team in his first year in the seniors’ ranks.

The 6-foot-4 Hubilla was named as the Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year after he tallied 37.11 PAVs — the best among all eligible rookies and freshmen, and ninth overall — after he delivered 12.89 points, 6.33 rebounds, and 1.78 assists in 18 games in the elims.
