MANILA, Philippines – Before the start of UAAP Season 87, Adamson University men's basketball head coach Nash Racela vowed his team would compete post-Jerom Lastimosa era.

"Compete, compete every game. Give the other teams a good challenge," Racela told reporters during the media launch of the new season.

With Racela at the helm, they did exactly that—there might not be many targets before their backs, maybe because they are not De La Salle University or the University of the Philippines. Still, the Soaring Falcons gave other teams a run for their money, especially the University of the East.

UE could have been a shoo-in for the fourth spot in the Final Four, but the Soaring Falcons soared more than what was expected of them.

Doubts may have fueled them—who knows? But one thing's for sure: former King Falcon Lastimosa is proud of what the Falcons achieved this season.

"Well, we all know na andaming nag-doubt sa Adamson ngayon, na hindi daw makakapasok sa Final 4. But yet, nandiyan sila sa Final 4. So, I'm so proud of them," Lastimosa told ABS-CBN News.

"Especially sa mga coaches. And of course, hindi lang ako 'yung naging proud. Buong Adamson community," the 5-foot-11 guard added.

After missing the semis in Season 86, they regained a spot this time at the expense of the Red Warriors, who struggled in a lot of ways in the second round of the eliminations.

"Dami nilang pinagdaanan bago sila [Falcons] mapunta sa Final 4, nag-do or die game sila against UE. So, sobrang proud ako sa Adamson," Lastimosa said.

As he carves his own path in the pros, Lastimosa has set his eyes on two goals: staying healthy, and of course, a PBA title.

Before debuting for Magnolia, Lastimosa was sidelined for one whole conference and rested for around 17 months as he recovered from an ACL injury he incurred during his Adamson days.

"For me, goal ko lang talaga para sa akin is to keep healthy. 'Yun 'yung pinaka-goal ko talaga sa sarili. Second, siyempre 'yung championship."

Lastimosa has played his best game yet in a Magnolia jersey, listing 27 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, although for a losing cause against NorthPort.
