The Gin Kings improved to 3-1 in the team standings after it dumped TerraFirma, 114-98 in their PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup bout on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Justin Brownlee erupted for 49 points — two short of his PBA career-high — and also tallied 12 rebounds and six assists in 41 minutes of action.

”We just wanted to bounce back and have a better outing,” said the Gilas Pilipinas star after the game. “Tonight, I just found myself open a lot, so I just took advantage of that.”

Helping him was RJ Abarrientos who finished with 18 points and six assists, while Ginebra newcomer Troy Rosario followed him with 17 markers and five boards.

Only ahead by nine points at halftime, Ginebra shifted to higher gears in the third period after Brownlee and Rosario combined for 23 points in the same frame.

This helped them to build a 22-point, 69-47 lead at the third’s 7:04 mark after a Scottie Thompson basket off an Abarrientos assist, but TerraFirma slowly crawled back after this and actually got back to within five, 99-94, after and and-one by Vic Manuel with still 4:26 remaining in the contest.

Unfortunately for the Dyip, Brownlee’s hot hands continued in the fourth as his basket with only 2:00 minutes left brought BGSM up by 15 anew, 111-96, while an Aljon Mariano three-pointer a few seconds later re-extended their lead to what it was at the final buzzer.

”To be honest, shooting the ball against Eastern, they felt pretty good [despite the misses],” pointed out Brownlee about how he regained his touch after an abysmal shooting night against the visiting team in their last outing. “With a rest, you tend to shoot better, but I don’t want to make excuses.”

On the other hand, TerraFirma, which fell to 0-5, was paced by Brandon Edwards’ 27-points and 12 rebounds, while Manuel followed him with 19.

Stanley Pringle, meanwhile, finished with 11 markers, nine dimes, and three steals in the first time that he faced his former team.
