As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the biggest game of the year, one name has quietly risen to prominence in their lineup: Nikko Remigio.

The undrafted wide receiver and kick returner from Fresno State has made a name for himself this postseason, earning a spot on CBS’ All-AFC Playoff Team and stepping into the spotlight as a budding star.

Remigio, the only Filipino-American in this year’s Super Bowl, has been pivotal in the Chiefs’ playoff run. His electrifying 41-yard punt return against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship and a 62-yard kick return in the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans have set him apart as a game-changer.

“I appreciate the history of returns in any NFL game, period. They’re hard to get,” Remigio shared with Sports Illustrated.

“The fact we’ve had two [long returns] in the last two games, I’m definitely going to do everything I can to get to that end zone in this last game.”

It hasn’t been an easy road for the Southern California native.

After being signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in the summer of 2023, he spent much of the season on the practice squad before earning a spot on the active roster in December. This included sitting on the sidelines and cheered on as he watched the Chiefs win last year’s Super Bowl. His perseverance through injury and limited opportunities has made his rise even more impressive.

Reflecting on his journey, Remigio credited his faith and determination for keeping him grounded. “I wouldn’t be here without God and how He’s prepared me for this moment, stuck with me through the ups and downs,” he said.

“Now that I’m here, the moment isn’t too big for me.”

With wide receiver Skyy Moore doubtful for the Super Bowl, all eyes are on Remigio to deliver big plays when it matters most. The Chiefs have not seen a Super Bowl kick return touchdown in 11 years, but fans are hopeful Remigio could be the one to break the streak.

“It’s a dream come true,” Remigio said. “I’ve learned to be grateful for where I’m at, regardless of where I am. Now that I’m here, the moment isn’t too big for me.”

As the Chiefs take the field on Sunday in New Orleans, Remigio is ready to showcase his talents on the world’s biggest stage. For Filipino-Americans and fans everywhere, his story is one of resilience, faith, and the drive to seize every opportunity.
