MANILA (UPDATED) – Japanese club Saga Hisamitsu Springs dominated Alas Pilipinas Women, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16, in a friendly match held Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Set 2 was a frame to forget for Alas after listing zero service aces and only tallying seven attacks compared to the 16 of the Springs.

Alas had a one-point, 8-7 separation in the final chapter, but that rare lead was taken down almost immediately as the Saga Hisamitsu Springs went on to sweep the hometown heroes in over an hour.

"Dito lumalabas ‘yung mga pagkukulang pa ng team namin," team captain Dawn Catindig admitted after the game. "'Yung kabila, alam na nila kung paano sila gagalaw, didiskarte. Sa side namin, nakita namin ano pa yung kulang namin and what we have to work on."

Japan's Miyu Nakagawa had a game-high 15 points in the quick shutout, while Megumi Fukazawa delivered 14.

Alyssa Solomon and Vanie Gandler delivered five points each to pace the defeated side.

Meanwhile, recently tapped setter Mars Alba debuted for the national team in the same game.

The women's team could snatch one against the visitors on Sunday at the same Metro Manila venue.

First serve is at 3 p.m.

The exhibition matches mark the year-long countdown for the historic staging of the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championships.
