MANILA -- The four-point shot in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has sparked heated debate since its debut this season.

While Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards praised it as a thrilling addition to the game, seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry expressed skepticism about its benefits.

Among those who disliked the development are Gilas Pilipinas players Kai Sotto and Dwight Ramos.

"No. I don’t think it’s just right," said Sotto when asked whether the Japan B.League should follow suit on the four-point line during a media availability on Thursday.

The star center also gave a piece of his mind on how to improve the spacing on the court--and not by putting in a four-point line.

"If I was the commissioner, I wouldn’t have a four-point line. I would just remove the three-point line and make the three-point line, even farther, like the NBA, they got a farther three-point line, so the spacing is better, and of course bigger. But no, I would not add the four-point line," Sotto said.

Ramos, Levanga Hokkaido's new captain, shared another insight as he also deplored the PBA's four-point line.

"I saw a couple of games, like the four-point shot was exciting, of course, because you’ll see somebody make a shot from so far. I know they put it in trying to remove teams from playing zone but, I mean, you don’t need to do that," Ramos said.

"If you want to break a zone, you just get a better zone offense. So I don’t really see the need for a four-point line," he added.

AJ Edu, a Filipino-American big man, appreciated the PBA's attempt to create excitement but preferred to see how it plays out before having an opinion.

"I think I appreciate the PBA for trying to do something new, trying to be innovative and all I can say is I respect that they’re trying something new," he said.

As the new B.League season approaches in October, Sotto is poised to make his debut with the Koshigaya Alphas.

Edu has also secured a spot in Japan's first division by signing with Nagasaki Velca.

Ramos is excited to take on the role of team captain for Levanga Hokkaido, aiming to lead his squad to more victories.
