MANILA – Ginebra will be having a huge boost in the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals.

Joe Devance has come out of retirement and will be joining coach Tim Cone and the group in its playoff run in the import-laden conference.

Devance, 42, announced the development Tuesday in an Instagram post, saying he's "honored to have this chance."

"Through it all it brought me back here! This is a surreal feeling im going through right now. This is the closure i wanted and needed. Im honored to have this chance," he said.

In a memo dated September 24, the PBA announced to all squads that the team has signed Devance "in lieu of Mr. Paul Garcia," and is eligible to play for the Gin Kings "effective immediately."

Devance is a 12-time PBA champion, an eight-time PBA All-Star, and a three-time PBA Mythical Second Team.

He will be bolstering the injury-hampered squad, with Isaac Go, Jamie Malonzo, and Jeremiah Gray still out for Cone.

Ginebra will be facing Meralco in a best-of-five series starting Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
