MANILA -- Kacey Dela Rosa had another dominant performance to help the Ateneo de Manila University escape with a slim 65-62 win over archrival De La Salle University, Sunday at the Adamson Gym.

The Blue Eagles claimed a bounce-back win in the UAAP Season 87 women's basketball tournament, improving to 2-1 while keeping the Lady Archers winless in three games.

But it was a tough showdown between the archrivals, with Ateneo nearly squandering a comfortable 51-38 advantage after the third period thanks to the hot shooting of Luisa San Juan.

"I think we started slow sa game and ended slower. We adjusted late at sa aming coaches na ‘yun. San Juan got into a flow," said Ateneo assistant coach Bacon Austria, who spoke for head coach LA Mumar after the game.

San Juan, a third-year Filipino-British forward, knocked down four three-pointers in the fourth frame to make it a one-possession game, 62-59, with still four minutes to go.

A split at the line by Junize Calago padded Ateneo's lead, but La Salle's Bea Dalisay drilled her own three-pointer to bring the Lady Archers within one point with 31.5 seconds left.

La Salle couldn't complete the comeback, however, and a pair of charities from rookie Kai Oani pegged the final score after San Juan's desperation heave at the buzzer misfired.

"It's a rivalry game, so it's big for us. A win against La Salle is a win against La Salle. It's a good test for us, but there's still so much to learn," said Austria.

Dela Rosa continued her stellar play, recording another double-double with 24 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks, though she was limited to just eight points in the second half.

"Tired. It was physical," said the 6-foot Dela Rosa. "But we came in prepared."

Calago and Oani contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Sarah Makanjuola added eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Blue Eagles will face the Adamson Soaring Falcons next on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

On the other side, San Juan finished with a career-high 24 points, while graduating forward Bernice Paraiso added 13 points and seven rebounds for La Salle.

The Lady Archers will aim to secure their first win when they take on the UE Lady Warriors on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
