MANILA (UPDATED) – PLDT announced late Sunday night that the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has junked their protest concerning a controversial call in Set 5 of their semis affair against Akari on Saturday.

"We sadly share the news that the Premier Volleyball League has decided to junk our protest regarding their referees' decision to not call a net touch on a crucial juncture of our match versus Akari in the semifinals," the statement read.

Following PVL's decision, the Finals will proceed as it is, with Akari and Creamline duking it out for the 2024 Reinforced Conference crown on Monday. PLDT will be battling Cignal for the bronze medal.

In the same post, the High Speed Hitters thanked the love they received from their fans.

PVL commissioner Sherwin Malonzo previously explained that there was no net fault at the 14-13 mark because when Ezra Madrigal went in contact with the net, the play was away from her.

Malonzo cited the section 11.3.2 of the FIVB rulebook, saying "Players may touch the post, ropes, or any other object outside the antennae, including the net itself, provided that it does not interfere with the play."

Earlier in the day, the team announced that they have formally filed a complaint before the PVL board regarding the outcome.

In a statement hours after PLDT broke the news, the PVL said they are upholding the referee's decision regarding the call, citing the aforementioned rule.
