MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Wednesday he would consult two-time Olympic Gold medalist Carlos Yulo on how the government could better support athletes and boost the Philippines’ medal haul in international competitions.

In an interview in Masantol, Pampanga, the President was asked if the government would add to the numerous incentives Yulo is expected to receive.

"I don’t see why not. He deserves everything that anybody is willing to give him," Marcos said.

“Actually dahil may monetary reward na sya kung saan-saan nanggagaling, ang talagang, pagka nagkita kami, itatanong ko sa kanya, ano ba maitutulong ng pamahalaan para mas dumami ang ating mga medalists sa Olympics at nadaanan nya lahat yan, he went to the Tokyo Olympics, he has now won his two gold medals in the Paris Olympics kaya’t ano pa ang aming gagawin,” he said.

So that is really, I think, a more significant effort and that’s why I will ask Caloy Yulo kung ano ba talaga sa palagay nya, ano pa ang pwedeng gawin ng pamahalaan para dumami ang ating medalya.”

Yulo is set to receive a cash incentive of P20 million from the Philippine government as mandated by Republic Act 10699.
