(UPDATED) Jarod Hatch has suffered an early exit at the men's 100-meter butterfly event in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Filipino swimmer needed to finish in the top 16 to advance, but failed to do so after a 36th-place conclusion alongside Jamaica's Josh Kirlew on Friday at Paris La Defense Arena.

He and Kirlew clocked 54.66 seconds — 4.47 seconds behind the heats' first-placer Kristof Milak of Hungary.

Josh Linedo of Canada was at second with 50.55, and Noe Ponti of Switzerland and Maxime Grousset of France were at joint-third with 50.65 after the conclusion of the heats.

Host bet Maxime Grousset and Canada's Iya Kharun round out the top five of the qualification round after clocking at 50.65 and 50.71, respectively.

Hatch ranked last in Heat 2, which was led by Jiajun Sun of Chinese, who finished at 51.85.

In contrast, fellow Philippine bet Kayla Sanchez managed to enter the semis of the women's 100m freestyle event.

She, however, missed out on a spot in the final after a 15th-ranked placement among semifinalists.
